I lost a baby Cochin bantam, 8 weeks to a trough. This trough was outside of their yard, and they had tons of water. I didn’t think they could get to it. But as we know baby chickens can find holes and sneak out. I’m utterly devastated. Is there anything made by trough companies for this purpose? That fit into them to make them drowning proof? If not has anyone modified there’s? And can you share how. I can’t bear to let this happen to another chicken. I feel so ashamed and terrible.

Oh no, thats terrible. I'm so sorry about your chick. I wish I could help, but I'm so new to chickens, I have no suggestions for the trough. However, having had a menagerie of other animals for decades, weird, unforeseeable accidents can and do happen. We miss stuff when we set up their habitats, despite our best efforts. Its awful when something like this happens, and we can learn from the experience, but that doesn't mean its your fault. Please be kind to yourself.

Thank you <3
