Male Muscovy Flying

We don’t mind them flying, our female flys around the yard. But she never leaves it. I would love for him to be able to fly with her, it’s sad when he flaps his wings and can’t go anywhere. But just this week he started to get off the ground and is able to join her. I think it he’ll be sad if he gets too heavy to do so.
I wouldn't mind but we live in a subdivision. We are on the outside and zoned light rural but if my ducks end up in someone else's yard too often that zoning might change.

I’m no expert. My muscovies were my first ducks and we originally thought they were Pekins. but so far the females hasn’t flown out of our yard. She knows she’s safe, and fed here, and has a warm place to sleep and her mate is here and can’t fly so she’s never gone far. Not sure about other people’s experiences with their flying females.
Great thanks for your experience.

You can clip their flight feathers so they won't. I do know that male or female it doesn't matter, all muscovy have the ability to fly.
That’s good to know! We don’t mind that they fly. I was just wondering if my male would lose the ability to fly as he got older. I think he enjoys flying with his mate, who is obviously better at flying because she is half his size. I would love for him to be able to continue to join her on the fence post or fly up the bank like he did tonight. Makes him feel included! Haha. Crazy duck person over here worrying about my ducks feelings! Lol

I'm going to clip my Muscovies wings because protecting them from getting out of their massive fenced in area is what's best for them. We plan on buying more land we currently have 3 acres but want 5+, then I'll probably let them roam a bit.

I have some wing-clipped females who try to fly at present. In the past, I had a large young male who flew onto the roof and walked around on it with the iron creaking ominously. He was HUGE and I did not think that was good for the roof. Also, once they're on the roof with their butts hanging over, it's a bit nerve-wracking to walk beneath.

Not sure, they just stretch them out while standing and flap them for about a minute.
That’s how it started with ours. But our Rouens do it too so I don’t know if it’s just a duck thing. I just remember them starting to do that, mainly our female and my husband saying she seems like she’s trying to fly and then one day she took off!
