Supposedly 2 years old and male, but the cere is very pale blue and slightly pale purple ish at the top? Doesn't strike me as an obvious boy, especially for supposedly being 2 years old.

Our other budgie is also obviously male with a very dark blue cere! It's so cute! My Neville (age unknown as he is a rescue) is more obviously male. His feet and cere are both pretty obviously blue. But I've had females before, and they laid eggs by the time they were not quite a year old. I'm not sure if that's helpful or not, just my experience. He's adorable either way!

Don't suppose you have a photo of when his cere was light? Was he under a year old at that point? I just thought that a male would have a much darker cere at 2, unless the age is wrong.Looks like a male to me. I have a boy who had a lighter blue/purple cere. I questioned if he was really a boy except he loves to sing. After my older male budgie died, he bonded more closely with my female budgie and his cere darkened quite a lot. He was about 3-4 years old when that happened.
Waiting would tell. The cere is almost certain to change at some point or other.I'm getting a lot of mixed answers... is there any way to tell for certain that isn't a blood test? (Not going to go that far) We were hoping to try and bond this budgie with our male budgie- I guess male or female could work but we'd really like to know which it is!
