Is there a easy way to tell if my 3 week old Cayugas are male or female?? They are all getting there adult feathers in and out of the 4 only one has very translucent green wing feathers. The other three are more black.

Thanks

Hiya! This is true in all male ducks. A drake will have a soft rasping quack, his back tail feathers will be curled at the end. A female will have a stereotypical duck quack. Loud and noisy. A hen will be slightly smaller and have smooth tail feathers.

Ok thanks. So the color of the wing feathers isn't a give away?

You won't be able to tell this young. In a couple weeks you should notice the voice difference. And the curly tail feathers don't come until a little while later. I believe all Cayugas will have a green sheen, but the males will be brighter.

My female Cayugas have all black bills and the drakes have yellowish green bills.
