Anyone have any clues? I’m not familiar with this colour. Thanks :)

That's a tricky one because all my gold males have dark brown markings on their face and the girls have black so I'd say it's a girl based on that, yet it has no chest spots. How old is it? You might have to wait for it to mature and let you know by crowing or laying an egg.

Definitely looks old enough to tell. I’ve never seen that coloring though. All Coturnix I have seen are brown. Yours is very cream colored. I would think that regardless of color, a female would still have spots on the chest. I would guess this is a male if I had to.

It is about a year old, and I thought it was a female, but I’ve been hearing crowing coming from my coop, and the rest of my coturnix are the normal pharaoh brown ( which is easier to tell male from female )

The golden chest usually indicates a male. Females should still have a few spots. It is a Gold/Manchurian colour which is dominant so if this is your boy and you hatch some eggs the majority of chicks should be gold (pharaoh is incomplete dominant).

I've had pharaoh males with spotty chests but you can still see red shadowing the spots. Red is an exclusively male colour where quail are concerned.

As it is mature you can vent sex. Males have a defined lump just behind their vent. Beware as he may poop in protest so proceed with caution!
