Male or female quail?

I was given several quail supposedly 4 hens and a roo but not sure if the roo is actually a roo? Need more experienced person input plz... there is no mating taking place no crowing this is why I wonder...
birds are prob around a year old.... both photos same bird

That's a roo. A hen would have speckles on her chest.
