I just adopted this Emu. from some people who are not real knowledgeable about Emus..... It is 6 years old, and they think it is a she. she has been raised on dog food her whole life, she isnt very big, about 5 feet. can you tell the difference by looking, boy or girl?
emus are fairly unique in that they usually do not lay eggs unless that they are fertilized. Once they are mature, the females make a drumming noise and the males make a grunting noise. The females also have a drooping flap of skin from the air sac that hangs from their necks when they drum. Adolescent emus make a variety of noises.
