Does anyone know anybody that breeds mallards for show? Im wondering because i havent been able to find anyone and im thinking about starting to breed them.

I got a group last year. What do you mean for show? I got 15 from Mt. Healthy hatcheries. I purchased them their because Matt John said they have some of the best birds.

Show as in like showing in the APA.
The hen that i have right now is from Mt healthy hatchery and i showed her and they said she was too light but she did beat out some calls from a breeder.
Cool Matt Johns the guy from Shady Land Poultry right? I may have to get some more of those. Will you be sellin hatching eggs from yours?

Yes. Matt John from Shady Lane Poultry. Unless something unexpected happens I plan on selling eggs from them in the spring. I have 8 females but will probably not use all of them or breeders. I really like Mallards, and hope to try and breed the best of the ones I have.

Cool not many people like mallards for some reason. Are yours really wild or are they tame because everyone i know that has them couldnt catch them to show when the time came.

I think mostly because you are required to have a "federal migratory bird" permit. You may want to talk to your county game warden to make sure you are required to have to have one.

Mine are not cuddle in your lap tame. I can catch them without a lot of trouble. A lot of the time I just scoop them up with a net so they do not get as flustered. I think they could probably be tamed. If they are capable of flight they are really hard to catch because they can just dart away. My Muscovies used to be very skittish. I tamed them with shell corn. I am pretty sure you could do the same with Mallards.
