mallard call ducks male/female ?

I have two young mallards both look like females, just started laying one egg a day, saw them mating in the pond, when do males get there colour or how can i tell if i have a male. I've also got two old call ducks an appleyard and a magpie it wasn't till daisy was approx 6 years old when her tail curled so he's nine years old now and still called Daisy.
