I have 3 mallard ducks. 2 drakes and a hen. The hen finally has layed a couple eggs this morning after getting banged in the swimming pool all summer. Is this normal to find eggs in the fall? If so how do I tell if they're fertilized?

As long as they get about 12 hours or more of daylight they will lay eggs. She will probably stop once the days start to shorten. As far as whether or not they are fertile, only way I know of is to crack it and look for bullseye type white spot on yolk or try to incubate and see if it develops. There's a good chance some will be fertile since the males have been getting her all summer.

She will probably try to hatch em if you leave em be...mallards do go broody and care for their babies, unlike a lot of other breeds.
