This past weekend we noticed an egg on the side of our home. We being nature lovers of course did not disturb the egg. Today I checked on the egg and discovered a mother duck sitting quietly on her nest. She is not moving and I want to make sure she and her egg are safe. Besides not disturbing her, is there anything we should do to make her nesting period safe. Also, I have not seen any males around, is that the way it is? I am pretty sure mother nature is better at this than I am but any advice would be appreciated.

Any stray dogs around? that will be a big hazard. other than reg preds of the wild kind. Other than that no much you can do except put up fencing but then that will still make her vulnerable to preds. Try not to inter fer and hopefully you'll get the pleasure of watching her hatch and care for her ducklings, any water close by? soon as they all hatch she'll take them to water.
