Hi everyone,
My mallard duck (Munchkin) hatched with her legs folded underneath her and couldnt walk properly for about a week, then all of a sudden they straightened out and she was away!
However, I would say they still aren't quite normal but only fractionally. She's been getting on fine, but the other day she was free ranging with me and she ran across the lawn and just stopped and sat down. Ever since she's been limping quite badly. She doesn't appear to be in any obvious pain as she's carrying on with life normally, but the leg is warm and she won't put much weight on it. No swelling or cuts etc.
I've put her on a bit of Brewers yeast as I hear that's good for leg issues, and she sits in her cold bowl of water which I imagine can only help, but I wondered if anyone has any tips/advice, or whether anyone has had similar issues and can share their experience?
Thank you :)

She may actually have pulled a muscle or caused a sprain. especially if your feeling warmth. Brewers yeast is a great idea 1Tab to 1 cup of feed is rec. for 10 weeks other than that keeping her from running till there is no more limp and water therapy but with warm water not cold. warm water therapy keeps the muscle moving and keeps everything loose cold water can cause your duckling to chill and get sick. Hopefully with rest water therapy and some Brewers yeast and maybe if you can some poultry vitamins a couple times a week will get her back on track.
If this is your first duckling this is some great info and also has a pic of a homemade water er that will keep your duckling from sitting in cold water

Thank you for your advice, I thought it could be a sprain or tweak. She's 7 weeks and fully feathered so not a little tot, but it's all been taken on board. She did look a wee bit better today, I've been keeping her with her best friend Cookie the chicken (they have been growing up together) in a small ish run so she can't run around. Cookie isn't too pleased though!
Thanks again!

This is them recently. Cookie obviously doesn't go in the bath but she tries her hardest to join in! They're absolutely inseperable

(Had to move them onto the concrete so we could mow the lawn, they aren't normally on it!)

How sweet. happy to hear they have such a sweet relationship. What breed is Cookie I see feathers on her legs

She's a copper maran :) Gonna be a stunner, love her fluffy feet :)

Just an update on Munchkin with the poorly leg.
She's much much better, still not 100% but weight baring on it and not limping too badly anymore. She's on the road to a full recovery!
