I have a hen who is always broody so this year we decided to let her do her thing. We put 5 eggs under her and 3 dissappeared!! We have no idea where!? So I added another. Well the 2 original never hatched but yesterday we heard peeping and there is it!!!
Ruthie a silver lace standard cochin is the surrogate Mom. The chick is probably from one of the buffs or the white cochin. Daddy is a white leghorn.
A friend took 3 eggs this spring but only one survived. She started out a white cochin mix but now is getting splashed of buff feathers.
This is the first chick hatched at the "Riverhouse" and we are so excited. Now I have a another blue cochin who has gone broody so I will be isolating her soon. They seem to do much better when the other girls are not around them.
Introducing "Firecracker" (drum roll please!)
