Hello! Chicken mama in Houston and just got my girls Thursday.

I was raised around chickens but have been begging for backyardies for years. My beloved finally understood the deep desire and we’ve started our adventure.

We have 6 2-week old Welsummers. All girls. I’ll venture to a roo when I have more land.

What’s the most important thing everyone should know when just starting out?

Welcome to BYC!!

Congratulations on getting your chicks; Welsummers are such pretty birds -- and they lay lovely eggs, too!

Most important thing to know: Be prepared for them to grow up much faster than you first expect. They will outgrow the brooder in no time and will need safe, well-ventilated and EASY TO CLEAN housing.

Other "most important": Watching them grow up, getting their adult feathers and exploring the world around them is AMAZING!

Welcome to BYC: we'd love to see your babies as they progress!
