Mama pecked 3 day old baby chick bloody. Can it survive this?

Mama hatched 3 eggs and abandoned the nest after ants started infiltrating (I’ve sprayed and spread diatomaceous earth to no end, ants are still present). I brought the remaining eggs inside and have successfully hatched 8.

I took 3 out to mama yesterday and found one pecked to death and covered in ants this morning, and another pecked pretty bad. I’m assuming mama does not want anymore chicks.

The wound is pretty deep and bad. I tried to feed the little chick some egg yolk and water but it didn’t take much. I’ve put antibiotic ointment on it and isolated it with another baby chick that is not thriving. Is this wound to deep to heal?

I lost 5 and out of the 2 separated from the rest, I believe I will likely lose the little one. I don’t wanna lose this one too! She was so healthy and lively when I put her with mama.

Try permethrin to get rid of the ants. It kills them nearly instantly. I'm so sorry to hear about the chick

@Foxymaven Did any of the chicks make it? I’m sorry to hear about the losses 😞, and I hope the injured and ill chicks recovered.

I hope the chick made it!
In the future hens won't usually accept new chicks after they leave the nest, if something like this happens again, you'll have to raise them yourself
