My chicks hatched Wed/Thursday last week. Today, the two mama's (sisters that hatched the same day and are sharing the duties) took them outside the run, and are feeding them grasshoppers! They are so cute, peeping 'feed me!" then running around with a grasshopper half in and half out of their mouths! They manage to get them down and go running back for more!

Having a hen raise chicks is sweet!

I'll bet it is cute to see.
I didn't get a single broody out of my adult brahma flock. I'm hoping that some of the chicks in the brooder will eventually grow up to make me a grandma.

Really, after having a broody, I don't think I will ever do it any other way. I was losing faith all spring, as my to bo would not do it, but the first of July they did, both together went broody. I really think the chicks are cleaner, healthier and stronger cause they are getting more exercise, traveling larger areas and bugs.
