I have my first feathered feet breed this year. I didn't really do my homework going into it because I didn't realize the Midnight Majesty Marans have feathered feet. They're 5 1/2 weeks old right now. One of the two MMMs has tons of feathers and she walks funny because of it. It reminds me of snorkeling this past winter in Maui, how awkward it is to walk with fins flopping on the fronts of my feet.
She also seems to have trouble with perching on the bars that I put up for them to play on, like she can't get her balance. She'll step up on the low bar, but when she tries to turn around, her feathers make it hard to maneuver. She doesn't even attempt to jump to the higher bar that's about 3 inches off the ground. I'm guessing she'll get more stable as she gets older and once she can reach the roosting bar in her coop since it's squared off. Any thoughts?
I had troubles with her vent early on because it was prolapsing, so I was always cleaning off her vent to make sure things went blocked. But now, the fluff below her vent (which looks like it's coming from her thighs) is so long and thick that she always has poop stuck to it. But at least it's clear of her vent.
