Looking for ideas on what to put down on the extended yard I've added to my coop. It's a grassy area and soon to be chicken poo. is it best to use a layer of shavings or sand with coop refresh?

Is it protected from rain? I always prefer some deep litter of varying sizes. For me that means arborist wood chips.
