Ok! Finally decided to introduce my sweetie pies, Mango and Dandelion. They’re pretty sweet. I’ve had Mango for 2 years, and Dandelion for 1 year.

I’m not very good with parakeets. I didn’t take them out of their cage for a few months... and I feel bad now. But now I take them out almost every day.

The reason was I had two parakeets before. My first two were Sapphire and Mango. Sapphire was the sweetest thing. But one evening I noticed her really puffed up and unhappy looking. I started googling everything I could to figure out what it was. It was pretty late in the evening, so I went to bed with plans to take her to the vet in the morning. She didn’t make it through the night. She was blue in color.

I buried her in the backyard next to past pets.

Then the next one I had (Mango was still alive) was named Mochi. She was also a blue parakeet. I loved her to pieces. She lasted for 6 months. I had been sick for over a week, mostly staying in bed. Then my sister came up and told me Mochi had passed.

Mango is still here. Dandelion is also still here. I’m very glad. They are both green parakeets.

I am now convinced green parakeets live longer than blue ones. (Just kidding, but still..) they were also from the pet store, so I probably should have bought them from a better place...
I will post pictures of Mango and Dandelion soon. Thanks for reading!

This is Dandelion. Dandelion is more of a lighter, yellowish color. Also is s/he sick? S/he’s cere color is brown and flaky. Also, girl or boy?

Their ceres (nose areas) are light blue + tan and brown, respectively. Male ceres range from bright pink or purple (in juveniles and adults of albino, lutino, and recessive pied varieties) or more often royal blue (adult males of all other colors.) Female ceres range from pure white to a very pale blue, to tan and a very dark brown when they are in breeding condition.

Both sexes can have a variety of colors of cere as you can see, but there is almost no overlap in the possible colors.

Thank you! That’s so interesting!
