I'm not sure if anyone else has had this happen before, I couldn't find any posts about it, anyways, my Cuckoo Maran just started laying and I was under the impression that they lay large very dark eggs? Mine is laying small, whitish cream colored eggs very similar to a cochin, is this normal? I'm almost certain it is a Maran,, anyone else experience this?

When a chicken starts to lay they arent exactly going to put out thier best, and expected eggs at the beginning. With time the eggs will get darker and larger in size. Give her some time, after all shes new at this.

Marans typically lay darker eggs right when they start laying and after a moult. Then they get lighter the longer they lay and darken up after another break/moult. If she's laying really light eggs right off the bat, I wouldn't expect to get any chocolate eggs from her ever. And, if you for her from a hatchery, that could explain why they aren't the chocolate color they're supposed to be. There is a Marans (several, for different color, I think) thread in the Breeds, Genetics and Showing section. I would ask there :)

Turns out she is a mixed breed. she has yellow legs, not the black/greyish color the Marans have.. As they say, "mutts make the best dogs". Maybe this goes for chickens too. Thanks for all the info
