Hi all!

New chicken owner here (obviously. ;-)) Here are my two Maran 'Pullets'- a Black Copper Maran and Cuckoo Maran, both about 4 weeks old in these pics. I'm not great at sexing chickens, but I feel like the Black Copper Maran is a roo- comb is now 2x as big as the Cuckoo Maran's, and significantly redder, and his wattles, (which are more pronounced three days later, are redder, and a little bit bigger than the Cuckoo's.) I've also seen Black Copper Maran charge the Cuckoo, who does not exhibit the same behavior. Am I right, or am I really wrong, and they're both roos?! (I don't remember my last batch of pullets having this large of combs at this age!)

Cheers,
Melissa

Thanks for the replies y'all. And, crap, I was afraid of that....was really hoping at least one of them was a pullet. Anyone located in Portland OR and want Maran roos?! ;-)

Both are cockerels.
Both are cockerels.
