Hi Everyone!
Okay I am new to chicken wrangling and was hoping someone could tell me if there is some sort of guide or resource for genetics. Maybe a "chicken recipe book" for how to breed for different results?b
For instance, if I were to cross a silver-penciled plymouth rock rooster with black double-laced barnevelder hens - and in a separate pen, cross a black double-laced barnevelder rooster with silver-penciled hens, would the results be the same or is that "lacing" gene carried only by the male? Or the female? See how confused I am? LOL
I have 3 marans. Two of them lay a milk chocolate egg that is just gorgeous. One of they lays a golden-avocado colored egg - again, very beautiful. Of course, I don't think there is such a thing as an ugly chicken egg. But how do you get chickens that lay the super de-dupery dark-dark chocolate brown eggs? I just hatched a fleet of FBCM chicks (11) and am incubating another batch from two other lines now. Are these chickens the very darkest egg laying chickens in the world?
And how do you get a blue egg? What on earth do you cross that makes a blue egg? I'm in awe but also feel like a dork for asking so please be nice.
Thanks!
KA
