Marans from Hatchery

Hi I was woundering if any of you have Marans from a hatchery and what the egg color and disposition is like. say what hatchery you go them from too pleasel

I have 4 Cuckoo Marans hens from Ideal. They are nice birds, good temperament. Their eggs are definitely brown, but not near as dark as some of the pics I've seen on here. They are the same color as the Welsummer hens I'm getting from my Welsummer hens that I also got from Ideal this past spring. For hatchery birds, I'm happy with them and Welsummers.

You wouldent be very happy with egg color with hatchery stock Marans. They just breed and hatch any color eggs. They dont work to keep that nice dark egg color that they are known for. I have 2 cuckoo Maran roos and 9 hens and all of mine lay a nice 7 to 8 on the Maran egg scale. When I had Marans from Mc Murry I was verry dissapointed with them at the most on the egg scale chart they were a 3. Now I have kelly Cratty lines and very very dark eggs and breed for very very dark eggs and only hatch the very dark eggs to make sure to keep the dark egg gene.
