Hi,
Wondering if anyone else has run into this. I've had 2 pullets from the same batch/parents now get ill and I'm trying to figure out what's going on. They were about 15 weeks old.
The first seemed like an injury, as one day it just stopped being able to walk, and although we kept in separated with food and water and extra vitamins it wasted away after a couple weeks and died.
The second was still walking up until a couple days ago, but seemed to have balance issues and would fall over and be unable to get up. We also separated her for at least 3 weeks and she seemed ok, but then the last couple days went downhill quickly. She was unable to walk and had no interest in food or water so we decided to put her down.
I figured it's mareks with all the neurological symptoms, which is terrifying as I have a large flock that I hatched myself, so they're not vaccinated. With this 2nd one I decided to do a very rough autopsy and found something weird. Her heart was absolutely tiny, like the size of my thumb nail. What would cause that? Could something else genetic or nutritional be causing the deaths?
