Marking chicks

Can I use a sharpie to mark my chicks so I can tell them apart? I was thinking about just making a little streak on their backs

I've never done it, but other members use "food dye"

I've seen people using Sharpies and non-toxic paints before, not sure I'd try them myself but never heard of any of their chicks developing issues from them as they grew older.

This is my preference too, just remember to be careful with them and change them often in the first few weeks as they grow!

They sew a colored wool thread through the back of their neck and tie a knot where I live. It lasts their entire lives through adulthood.
