I've been browsing the forum and came across a mention somewhere (can't remember quite where or who, but I think they were talking about silkies) of "dying" a hen to be able to tell what eggs are from that particular hen. Anyone know anything about this? How it is done if it is at all possible, and whether the color will rub off on the other eggs if more hens lay in the same place?

Thank you

I don't think I made myself quite clear

Say you have a flock of 6 hens with 1 rooster, and you only want to breed from 2 of the hens (yeah I know you can split the flock

From what I read somewhere here, there was a way to "dye" the hens so that you could see what eggs were from the ones you want to breed?

You drop a few drops of food coloring into the hen's vent and it should dye the eggs for a day or two. I have not tried it yet. Please post pics if it works!

That's what I've been looking for

I'm just doing research at the moment as I'm planning a hatching next year, but I might try it out soon just to see if it works - if it does I will post pics
