mating season?

do chickens have a mating season? is it now? and will my rooster calm down with the over-mating once the possible season is over?

Yes, a mating season of sorts operates the breeding activity is highest between January and September. Isolate the rooster for a couple of months. Then release his to see is he improves. If not and you consider him highly then keep confined through the end of the molt in late fall.

In my experience no, though I haven't owned enough roosters to really have a qualified opinion.

Having more than one exponentially increases the crowing though, they compete with each other.
I would say a resounding NO. Dint do it! We had 2 roosters and 7 chickens at one time and competition was so fierce they both tried to jump on one chicken at the same time. Tore up the chickens so bad 2 died and I had to get rid of one rooster. Mostly the aggressive ine.
