mating

not sure if my duck is being mean or trying to mate....sorry...new at all this! Earlier today I refilled the mortar tub with fresh water and my one duck went in and as usual was very selfish and hogging the whole tub but for the first time I noticed that my one duck actually sat on the back half of the female duck and held her on the ground by just sitting on her! She didn't seem upset but the one in the water sort of pecked at her to make sure she stayed out. Is this a dominance thing showing up in the younger ducks? The younger ones are about 15 months old and the new female is about 2 years old and laying eggs every day. My one cauyoga looks like he's getting a curl on his tail but the other one ( the water hog) looks like she might be the female.

It seems to me that this is normal behavior. The male may be mating her and the other one might just want the pool all to him or herself. I wouldn't worry too much unless they begin to fight a lot. Sitting on her back, though, just sounds like they're mating.

The first part sounded like mating. Some of my birds are water hogs too so it's not unusual.
