I am a little worried about the size and weight difference between my hens and the rooster. He is a massive Cochin and heavy. This morning he jumped on my black copper maran who disappeared under him. could he hurt them?

yes and no. its depends how aggresive he is toward the hen. Im not sure the size difference, Be I am sure they are fine.
