I'm getting mixed results and not many answers when I look on Google.

I have a flock with meriks and we are wanting to introduce more but the some of the new, vaccinated, chicks died in the brooder. We have found good chicks nearby but they are unvaccinated. I have been seeing that it should only be given to one day old chicks but the only reasoning I've found is because if an adult chicken has meriks it won't help. Which isn't helpful when I will be getting unexposed 28 day old chicks.

So can I give the vaccine to a 28 day old, unexposed chick? Or is it age that makes them unaffected by the vaccine?

You would go by the vaccine maker's instructions. Which I believe says to vaccinate day old chicks.

Chicks that are vaccinated need to be quarantined away from existing flocks for at least 2weeks so they are not "exposed" to the virus and also to hopefully build some resistance. It's no guarantee.

The vaccine does not prevent infections from the virus, not does it prevent birds from becoming ill, it can however reduce the likelihood of tumors from the virus.
