Can anyone help me come up with a diagnosis for my baby chicks I think it’s most likely coccidia but I wanted others opinions. I’ve been treating with Corid for 3 days. I had one that was laying down with its wings and feathers ruffled out and it would not eat or drink it sadly passed then I decided to do research cause I’ve never had this happen with any of my chickens so I then started giving Corid in their water a day later I had another doing the exact same thing has the other (I’ll attach a picture) except it was eating and drink I thought it might get better but it didn’t. They are all stumbling around and can barely walk they’ve also been more lethargic, but they are still eating and drinking. If anybody knows of anything else I can do or something it might be other than coccidia then please let me know thank you! 😊

So sorry you've lost a chick! I know that feeling. :hugs

All you can do is continue the Corid. Make sure you're not giving them any other water source and no extra vitamins.

Usually it's recommended to give them Corid water for 5-7 days. You might want to go 7 if they aren't over this in 5.

Is your bedding pine shavings, not cedar? It appears as such.

When done giving them Corid, make sure to supplement them with vitamins. We use Poultry Cell in their water and would give them that every other day for around two weeks. Probiotics also may help if they get diarrhea from the Corid.

Welcome To BYC

Can you tell us the temperature of the brooder?

Where is the food in the brooder, I see the water?

What are you feeding, including any treats?

The brooder looks quite small for the size and number of birds you have in there. They also look well feathered, so may not need as much heat as you are providing.
Black plastic or rubber tanks/totes can hold quite a bit of heat.

Are you certain the stumbling around isn't due to heat distress and dehydration instead of Coccidiosis?

Can you please get some photos of the poop without the red light?

The bird you have circled in the photo - it's hard to tell if that's Coccidiosis or overheating (wings spread to try to cool down).

We had just fed that morning so they’re all around the feed, but we feed a 18% medicated chick starter I don’t feed any treats right now.
We had just moved them on the ground a week ago then we had one that was just laying up under the light then that one passed so I decided to then moved them back. Them being to hot did cross my mind but I have felt the rubber tote and it’s not hot at all it is also low 40s sometimes 30s and in the teens at night where I live right now. I will get a picture of the poop without the light when I go out there. I’ve had some chicks in the summer that were in heat distress and dehydrated and they did not act like this.

They are doing a lot better today than they were doing today is day four of Corid. They are no longer stumbling around and they are eating and drinking. So I’m praying they will be alright 🙏

Can you move the light over only half the container so they have a chose to be in the heat? They picture you posted looks like over heating.

Do you ever turn the lamp off? Sometimes they need the dark to help them grow. 🥰

I’ve picked them up and they are not hot. You can’t really tell in the picture but the lamp is covering half of it. The light we have does not get that hot like some. We did have them on the ground but they started getting sick so we moved them back. They are doing a lot better today though.

Okay!
