Hey! Received my chick order yesterday with the free chick. I need help identifying him. I am thinking it is a Jersey Giant? Has anyone gotten a hen as their free chick? I know they mostly give roos. I’m just concerned because I have heard Jersey Giant roos are so big and heavy they can crush smaller hens while mating. Any thoughts?

How to ID the most common Black chicks with white throats and bellies

Yellow legs = Jersey Giant
White legs = australorp
Dark, feathered legs = marans
White barring spot on head + yellow legs = Barred Rock
Anything else = good luck

Oh I didn't notice this.

Yes, impossible. Roosters can certainly be rough and can wear hens down over time, but I think it would be as rare as a lighting strike if they killed one in a fowl swoop.
