Hi Everyone,
I am a new member. I was asked to mention who I am, so here it goes.
I am a software developer by day (actually afternoon and evening). My hobbies are aquariums, chickens, goats and my German Shepherds.
Raising chickens (for eggs only) is my favorite hobby. I am in my fourth year (three summers of new peeps). My chickens free range over three acres and I spend my evenings with my favorite cigars with my chickens looking for the latest treat. One hen jumps in my lap the minute that I sit down. They assume that anything in my hand is a treat which means that I have to protect the book that I will be reading from their curious nature. My German Shepherd's cannot figure out what to do with a chicken that jumps on their back.
This winter one of my roosters was attached by an unknown predator. I was asleep and I heard the distinctive sound of a chicken under attack. I found him with its head in the fence screaming. He lost an eye and his flock status, but is now my favorite chicken.
My chicken's favorite food is mealworms; corn on the cob is a close second; grapes would be their third. Each generation has different tastes for food. All depends on what the dominant hen decides is good food.

and Welcome To BYC! Funny about the dog riding chickens. Glad your rooster recovered well.
