Hey everybody, very happy to have found this site. I've read loads of helpful information and have spent hours over the past few weeks looking at pictures of everybody's coops and chickens lol I thought it time come out of the shadows and introduce myself and mine.
I live in Hawaii and have loved chickens for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I developed an obsession with japanese bantams in particular, luckily my parents were nice enough to let me have some. Those were some of the happiest times I can remember, seeing em waddle around the yard was like a dream come true. After I went to college and came back I ended up moving to a different island and unfortunately haven't had chickens since then what with renting out apartments and all, been about 12 years now. Luckily I have my own property now with plenty of space and the first thing I knew I was gonna do was get some chickens!
Three and a half weeks ago my day old black tailed white japanese bantams, black japanese bantams, and a surprise feather footed chick (I think bantam too) I didn't order arrived. I've been watching em and I thiiiink out of the six there's 2 black tailed white lil roos, one black tailed white lil hen, two black lil hens and whatever the feathery one is. It's so amazing watching them grow up, watching their behaviors and feathers develop. And it's really great to see this place where so many other people share the same passion.
Here's some pics of the crew - if anyone has any ideas about what they think the feather footed one could be I'd love to hear em. My best guess is a black cochin bantam, but I'm still not sure... when they first arrived and I saw the one with the super short wings and feathered feet I was like ahhh dang they messed up my order but it didn't take long at all for me to fall in love with that one too. He (I think he) is super friendly and waddles right up to me most of the time, he's a handsome bugger too.
