Hello,

I have a flock of four hens that I have had for a little more than two years. Same birds from two days old. Two of them are buffs. There is one in paticular who i have had real trouble with being broody but that comes and goes. She is now all of a sudden attacking the other Buff at the base of her comb and it appears to be constant as the blood has been evidently going down her head . I have been out of town and just come back and noticed it.

I did see her comb attacked a few weeks ago but it cleared up and looked like she was going to be okay. It appears that there is an issue between the two of them still.

Why would they have this going on? They have been together since being chicks. They have never fought. It is only the one hen who is being a brat. The others are all very docile and never squabble.

Any advice? She is escalating her behaviour.

Thanks

If she is the only one being a brat, it is her with the problem and not the others. I would recommend either rehoming her or by some other means removing her before she causes serious damage. Enjoy your chickens without having a mean one to worry about.

Try separation of the offender for a week, to reset the pecking order. It may only be temporary with a small flock, but worth a try.
