Have a sweet young blue Swedish drake, who has absolutely zero interest in other ducks, and a tiny female call duck (That I am planning on getting rid of) who keeps puffing out her chest and putting her head up and shoving herself against the poor boy while quacking a lot. He only seems mildly alarmed and tries to walk away, and she won’t stop even if I shove her away so I have to toss her in the pool. Any idea why she is doing this?

Sounds like she is interested in him
How old are they ?
I don’t think you need to interfere unless a duck is causing harm to another one
They have little things they do
Female is 8 weeks but not laying yet and the male is 5 weeks. Honestly my poor boy seems more scared of her than anything when she does that lol. She does hate to be separated from him though, but neither are mature yet.

I wouldn’t worry to much
They are young and playful
My females didn’t start to lay till 4.5 months
Unless she is attacking him I would just sit Back and let them figure things out

And now is when I relies my mistake, I said weeks instead of months. Its 5 months and 8 months :/
That makes more sense
She is flirting and wanting to mate
With winter she may not start to lay till spring
Do you provide crushed oyster shells for her ? If not o would start putting them out and she will eat them when she is ready.
Also enjoy the fact he isn’t trying yo mate yet
Once they start it can be a nightmare

I’ll start putting some out, should I worry too much about the size difference? I plan on getting rid of the call and getting some bigger girls, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to find any until spring and I don’t want to leave my boy alone

I have some smaller khaki cross females and some huge Swedish drakes
So far it hasn’t been an issue
But you could get some regular size girls in the spring
