mean little "witch"

my alpha hen is pushing the other ladies off the perch. one hen has resorted to sleeping in a nesting box. what can i do? maybe add another perch? i have a 4' long perch for 4 girls, and they all seem to want to huddle in one corner.

You could add another perch or you could get rid of the "witch" if it really bothers you that they are sleeping in the nesting box.

it doesnt bother me that one sleeps in the crate. it just pisses me off cause she is so bossy. they have ample room in and out of the coop, and more than enough food for them all; but yet she still has to have the first say. guess chickens are more like people than i thought

We have a Wyandot like that. She is much larger than the others. I give her a good swat if she is pushing others around, while I am around. She is getting the idea that pecking and pushing leads to stars in her eyes.

She has calmed down considerably...
