I live in phoenix az. . and have a rhode island red rooster. just about a year old. is it still ok to eat it.? he just roams around my backyard with my other rooster, but 1 too many roosters if you know what i mean. . any replies or experience appreciated. :)

He'll be fine to eat but you'll either need to crock pot him or possibly even roast slowly on very low heat (about 200F till the meat starts falling off the leg bones).
It's easier to part them out since the breast will cook quicker than the legs and wings.
A little trick is to confine him to smaller quarters for a few weeks to soften up his muscles.

I've eaten 4 year old rooster, and several over a year old.

Agree with the above. Low and slow, moist heat. You're not going to fry that boy up, that's for sure. Or dry roast. Break him down into pieces, use the crock pot or a covered dish with moisture (wine, broth, etc) and let him go on low for several hours. Pick the meat off the bones, have some chicken tacos, enchiladas, some type of casserole or pot pie, etc. You can use the bones for broth, also, for a nice treat.
