I'm not sure if that is her problem. She has had a very large sack hanging from her neck/ breast area for about a month now. She is about 9 weeks old. she eats and drinks, but isn't as big as the other birds. No straw or hay. Meat bird food is all they getHow old is the bird? What have you been feeding it? Do they have access to straw or grass? Are you sure the crop is impacted, or is it just very full?
Various things can cause crop diseases. A simple impaction is usually caused by long, fibrous straw or grass. If it has been short term (just a couple days at most) then the meat is probably still safe to eat. If it has been impacted longer, the bird hasn't been eating for awhile, and I would expect the meat to get an off flavor.
Sour crop is an impaction with a yeast overgrowth (yeast may or may not come first). Again, in that case, I would go by how long it had been going on, but would be more hesitant to eat the bird.
In either case, I would not recommend eating anything from the digestive tract (gizzard, liver) and would take a lot of care to make sure crop & digestive contents do not touch ANYTHING.
And if you want to continue raising your bird, crop diseases often can be easily treated. Withhold feed, crop massage, apple cider vinegar, there are some very simple things you can try to treat the bird.
