Meat Chickens for 4H advice

My daughter decided she wants to try Meat Chickens for 4H this year. Our Fair's 4H livestock auction is in early September. What breed and when should I pick up chicks for her? I don't want to get them too early so they can't walk or too late so they are under sized. If I got them in the last week of April they would be 19-20 weeks before the Fair. Thanks

We processed our Red Rangers in between 12-14 weeks. They were a nice size and were much prettier than our Cornish X's that we have right now.
