Meat chickens

We raised meat chickens for FFA. They didn't make the cut so we had most of them processed. They have been caged but we recently let them free range. Will they eventually start laying?

Its just that they're so fat. Will they lay if they're so fat or will they need to lose weight first?

depends if its all genetics or if its the feed you're giving... if you're giving them meat bird food, stop that, give them something more balanced, ration their food(most meat birds have a tendency to overeat). Also, since you got em as meat birds, they are probably still pretty young? I doubt they'll start laying eggs before 5 months old, so you should have some time ^^
