Hey so I’m wanting to start a steady meat chicken flock for my family, but don’t want to have to do all this cross breeding for Cornish cross right now, but a good chicken that we can breed on our own and butcher if we so decide to

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you in this Poultry Loving Community. You may want to look at white giant or white rock. You may even want to consider using a White Giant rooster on a flock of White Rock hens and forget about cornish. White rocks lay quite well and White Giants provide a larger frame. Way back when Cornish cross were getting started the White Giant x Rock was a very well liked cross and there are no problems with heart attacks and weak legs.
