Okay I'm confused. Everything I've read about geese says They are STRICT vegetarians and won't even eat bugs. I just caught my two geese fighting over a chicken spine I threw out back from last night's dinner. They picked it clean.

So clearly geese aren't STRICT vegetarians... should I try to avoid putting meat out there in the future or is it okay for them?

It's fine for them. Geese prefer to base their diet largely on greens, that doesn't mean they won't eat meat occasionally when it's readily available. Mine eat live fish with the ducks.

Mine won't touch meat and I've never seen mine fish. Are you sure they were interested in the fleshy bits and not whatever tasty seasonings you used for dinner?

I doubt it will hurt them.

Mine eats cat and dog food if he can get to it.

I wouldn't leave meat out for geese. They're not designed to eat meat and they won't know if it's gone bad. But they're curious and will probably play with any carcass. They can die from eating rotten meat.

I know meat is okay and often they strain at eating it but live fish? I had never heard of this, though on the second thought fish sounds logically.

For the second day now My grey goose just ate small bites of (freezer burned) filet mignon I cooked To rare and cut up for the chickens. No seasoning on it. And our goose kept the chickens away from what he could to get all he could. Hubby thought not good to feed much meat as they are usually grass fed and not designed to digest meat well. Can’t see any issues yet

My geese try to grab everything they think others want. was taking plastic wrap off a roll of fencing and one ran up and grabbed it (that was a chase) The original geese i have never liked peas fed some to the babies one day and now they love them. Ant hills are a fun treat but only if they see a duck going after it then its theirs,
