I have a ten-month old silkie who was setting on a couple of one-week old chicks in a cage (to keep the bigger guys away from the babies). She seemed fine and healthy, but after a week of setting started acting very strange. She started sticking her head under the front of her and would leave it there. After this continued throughout the day, I removed her from the chicks in case she was sick. It's almost like she has a neck injury--although she was in a cage, so it wouldn't seem like she could have been injured. I had given her and the chicks their own water and medicated starter food. Is it possible the starter could have caused a problem? She seems fine when she is out in a grassy pen, but when I put her in a box at night--separated from my other chickens, she winds up with her head under her again. She is eating and drinking fine and even escaped her grassy pen yesterday and wound up quite a distance away, so she seems to be able to get around fine. She moves her neck around strangely when I put her in her box. I have been searching but can't find anything that sounds similar. Any ideas or suggestions??
