I just had to share a little about my special salmon favorelles. I hatched her from my own flock last May with two others and three cockerels. I worried about her right away as one eye was bulging out a bit and one toe bent under the others. Of course I came straight here to search for info and tried to fix her toe. But maybe she was too old to correct it? She still walks on it and doesn't seem the least bit bothered. Once they were outside and ranging I thought she might be blind, the way she tripped on everything and pecked to the side of the food and water instead of in it. But since I saw her eat and drink and she didn't seem in pain, I let it ride. It seems besides the bulging eye, one is set ever so slightly forward from the other so she definitely has a hard time seeing. I suppose these are the kinds of birds you should cull, but I just couldn't. She's even more goofy than the other SFs, and has even crowed a few times. I think just this week she has figured out how to go inside the coop to lay her eggs, instead of dropping them in the yard like a poo. I found her today tangled in a fly paper, just wearing
it around like a new boa. Her sister is brooding 9 more babies due the 28th, I wonder if there will be any 'specials' in the bunch!
