Well, my chicks are now almost six weeks old, and have been out in their coop since they were two weeks and completely outgrew their brooder. I have 6 Buff Orp and 5 Aracauna girls, with the other 19 being a straight-run mix of bantam Cochins, Silkies, Japanese, and one Silver Seabright that got tossed into my order as a "free exotic mystery chick".
So, meet my mixed flock of heathens!
Some of the kids up on the boards I've put up for them to learn to roost on - the lower board goes from the ground to about a foot up for the non-flying Silkies, and the other starts at two feet and goes to three
One of my blue Cochins giving my phone the eye
Cochins and my black-tailed white Japanese roo - he is going to be gorgeous, but also likely not too friendly, as they won't let me catch them like the other chicks will.
My last remaining white silkie (who I can't quite sex yet), and the Silver Seabright (who looks very dark for breed-standard)
One of my red Silkies, tentatively named Scheister at the mo'
Blue Cochin roo
This black Silkie has moves, because he hopped up to the tall roost!
Two of my buff Orp girls out on supervised exploration of their run. I'm hoping that in two weeks I'll be able to let everyone out, but I'm waiting for some of the cochins to get their back feathers!
