Three straight days of 43degrees+ too much for my poor family of chooks!!

Geez! That's scorchin hot! How hot is it in the shade? Poor chooks! Make sure they have lots of fresh water.

It's about 3 degrees here currently. It is forcasted to be down around -8 or so Celcius here tonight.

You could always have -24 C like we had last week!

My Mum lives in Stawell, Vic and she says it's terribly hot.

The heat is unbearable! We did everything for our chooks over the last few days short of bring them inside but unfortunately they found it too hard.They had plenty of water and shade and we had watered them down the night before. Lat night I gave them scraps at about 6pm and checked on them(44degrees!) and went back an hour later and for some reason they had put themselves back in the coop and were all dead. My daughters were upset but we will go out and get four morewhen it cools off a bit. A sad loss for our family as they were four fantastic friends who taught my two young girls (5 and 2) a lot about responsibility and life.

Oh, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. That is a hard blow for children so young I know and not pleasant for you either.

I lost a young hen today myself. I think the cold and wind just finally got to be more than she could take. She was only a couple months old.

I'm really sorry you lost your chooks. The extreme heat or cold can be so hard on them.

chuck some ice cubes in their drinker mate, we're in chch, nz and we're getting a few 37-40 deg lately, some ice cubes in their drinkers in the shade helps.
