Hatched a lil' mutt over the weekend, turned 60... hrs earlier today:)

After enough chirping to trigger my inner hen instincts, decided she may be better with the other girls than tucked under my collar or freaking out in the incubator. Plus ppl were asking questions... at the store...

Went pretty well at first; until new food was introduced (treat worms, sunflower seeds & lil bit of yogurt). all were fine but one; kinda picking on her but nothing too aggressive. Eventually another Buff pecked at the belligerent one "calm down chief", she's a peanut.

Long story short, 0-1 week can be integrated with 1-2week old chicks, just be vigilant and as boring as it is, if you make a story in your head... time flies ;)

Peanut eats a whole bunch and crash a lot, head first in said dish. So cute. Used to do that in college. Was not cute.

So..... newly hatched chicks can be put together with chicks that are already 2 weeks old? I have a staggered hatch in the incubator right now and was worry about that, if the smaller ones can be put in the same brooder as the older chicks.

Worked out with some supervision @Shamo Hybrid ; I would make sure the newcomers are decently stable on their feet, and that the "hosts" chicks have enough space to "retreat" when those fluffy "invaders" are dropped in. It's Gremlins all over.

All jokes aside, you'll be surprised how the 'lil ones can push back, the effort to do so may offset the misery of being alone in the incubator.
