Mess free feed ideas

i have this feeder for my birds,
Chicken Feeder Mason Jar - Reedy Fork Organic Farm and Feed Mill
mine is plastic though.

I'm a brand new quail owner but so far I made this troft so they wouldn't scratch all their feed out, and then at one week old moved them to the 'animal cracker box'. It's just a nitrile glove box with bigger spacing so their heads fit through, but their shoulders don't and again, prevents them from scratching all their feed out. When they get too big for this they'll get upgraded to a Tupperware container with round holes drilled in it. That will be their permanent feed container.

I’ve tried two different methods and my quail preferred one while I liked the other ahahaha! Well, I guess technically three? When they were chicks they just had a small tray filled with food and it caused a horrible mess but the brooder was cleaned out twice a day so it wasn’t much of a problem. As adults, I tried a diy soda bottle feeder. I really liked this one as they couldn’t make much of a mess by kicking the food everywhere and they couldn’t stand and poop in it. However I noticed that they didn’t seem to like it and even though I had more than enough “access holes” per bird, they fought over feeding spots. Then I was gifted a picnic table bird feeder, for wild birds, and they much preferred this. They didn’t fight and I noticed they gained a few ounces even though I thought they were full grown. However, they definitely make more of a mess!

if you want something cheap and easy that keeps messed from happening, i’d recommend making one out of two soda bottles. There’s some pretty good videos on YouTube!

I might need some feeder ideas too.

I have five quails in the bottom of one of my aviaries with five of my parrots (two cockatiels, two princess parrots and a budgie). I currently put the quails food in a regular bowl on the ground, but the parrots fly down and eat it! They're kind of addicted to it (which is probably not good). My problem is, pretty much anything the quails can access, the parrots can access too. I can't really move the quails to another enclosure (because I don't have enough space).

Any ideas on a feeder that parrots can't access?

I typed this ages ago and I guess never hit send lol:
I made this, but my food was too powdery and would cake up in the humidity, I made a thread about it. I think most feed would be fine, I bought new feed, and I’m fermenting the stuff that doesn’t go thru.

For my fermented feed, or any feed really, I have a few designs, I go thru a ton of whimsy dog treats and I use their tubs for everything lol. I started with the one with the tubes for dry food, it keeps them from flicking it out, but I can still keep a higher level in it. For the wet fermented feed I now just use the tub with 2 holes cut on every side, but I don’t have a pic of that.
