I’ve been reading and researching a ton. We have treated with denagar, but know i have two more hens with signs. Our vet recommended tylan. Here’s my question. Is it okay to give tylan a week after the denagard? This has been a trying time with my flock! MY other question is do I just treat the flock with symptoms, or go ahead and dose the others as well. I have two flocks, they share our property so I’m being stupid and thinking they don’t have it to.

How do i dose and give the tylan? I have hens down to 4 pullets that are 2.5 months old.

You should close your flock to new birds or birds going out of your flock. MG and MS are contagious and can also spread through hatching eggs to new chicks. Denagard is used against MG, but it can taste bad. I would make sure that you are giving the right dose and that they are drinking it. There are threads here about flavoring it for better intake. There is not a good treatment for MS from what I have read. Tylan (tylosin,) tetracyclines, and others are used. What kind of Tylan do you have? It comes in injectable 50 and 200 mg per ml, as well as a soluble powder for water. I would recommend only treating birds with active symptoms. Have you had a necropsy or testing to confirm MG and MS? Here is where to find Tylosin powder, and dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 3-5 days.

It will only mix well if water is added to the powder.

Yes i had necropsy done on 3, they where positive for both. I don’t have the tylan at the moment. But i was going to run to tractor supply and get it if that is the best option.

I treated with the denagard like the other posts say, didn’t let anyone free range while I was treating so it was their only water source.

My flock is closed. I’m working with the dept of Ag in my state since I sent he necropsy to the state lab.

I hate to think about having to give the injectable, but i would if that will work better. Right now I put the ones today with symptoms in their own run and have been making sure they are drinking the medicated water.

Most chicken people give the injectable Tylan orally. Tylan injectable is very hard to find these days, although some report they have obtained it. The best value would be the powder for the water from jedds, which is not sold in feed stores since most antibiotics were removed about 4 years ago. I think that Denagard is widely used in MG positive flocks, and is easy to get online. But Tylosin, the generic Tylan powder, works well too. A 100 gram package makes 20 gallons of medicated water. It should be changed every 3 days. Be sure to mix it by adding the water to the powder.

Thank you! I’m going to order it now just to have on hand in case I need it to.
